Ramada is a large American multinational hotel chain owned by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. The Ramada name derives from the Spanish term rama (meaning “branch”). Temporary open-air structures called “ramadas” (meaning porch or arbor), made of brush or branches (similar to an arbor) were popular in Arizona during harvest time. Company websites commonly refer to the structure as a “shady resting place “. Ramada opened its first hotel, with a 60-rooms facility, on U.S. Route 66 at Flagstaff, Arizona in 1953 and set up its headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. As of December 31, 2022, it operates 851 hotels with 120,3444 rooms across 63 countries under the Ramada brand.

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts is an International Hotel and Resort chain based in the United States. Founded in 1981 in Dallas, Texas, by Trammell Crow, the president of Trammel Crow Company (TCC) named after a friend of Crow’s, a woman named Wyndham Robertson, who wrote a profile of him for Fortune. It has its branches spread in different parts of the world.
On June 1, 2018, Wyndham became known as Wyndham groups.
In June 2023, the hotel chain has more than 9300 hotels in 95 countries, represented by 24 brands. It describes itself as the largest hotel franchisor in the world, with 9,280 locations. It has approximately 836,000 rooms.
